On János Sugár’s artistic path, public space, moving image, and experimental forms of media all play a central role. His work is often described by the umbrella term PST (public art – street art – tactical media), concepts that share a common thread of disruption, shifting contexts, temporality, and the constant raising of the question: what seemed insignificant in the past but now takes on a new meaning? Over the course of three weeks, in three thematic blocks, we will explore the key stations of his filming practice.
Today, when almost everyone carries a device capable of recording video in their pocket, it is hard to imagine how different it was to access a camera just a few decades ago. This gap is crucial for understanding the video art of the 1990s and 2000s. This exhibition and screening series marks the first attempt to process and recontextualize Sugár’s experimental film heritage. It not only invites us to rediscover an important chapter in the history of the moving image but also to reflect together on how we consume film and video today.
