A new photobook by documentary photographer András Zoltai tells the story of Majuli—the world’s largest river island, slowly disappearing under the shifting waters of the River Brahmaputra in Northeast India.

Spanning five years of immersive fieldwork, Flood Me, I’ll Be Here is both a record and a reflection: on climate adaptation, resilience, memory, and the quiet endurance of the people who remain.

Rather than focusing on catastrophe, Zoltai’s work explores the everyday continuity, the rhythms of resilience and the sacred intimacy between people and land. The book features 97 photographs, fragments of his diary, and an original text by Indian artist Devadeep Gupta, who reimagines a 1950s expedition through a speculative, post-seismic lens.

“I wasn’t just documenting an island. I was learning how people live with change—how they hold on to meaning, in every day, in every action despite the ever-changing environment around them. It was a lesson I wanted to share with others far away from Majuli. This book is my honor to these river people’s quiet resilience.” — András Zoltai
